Project Brief

S.D. Bell’s name and reputation flourished during the first half of the twentieth century, and quickly became synonymous with the best tea and coffee available, while the wonderful aroma of freshly roasted coffee permeated Belfast’s streets.

John J Doyle was asked to design a flue system to suit a new flue application  for SD Bell & Co. We had to ensure that the flue system met the specification set out by the manufacturer of the Coffee Roaster as in full production  it can reach very high temperatures.

  • Dinak – 200 Single wall SW (cold Pipe)
  • Dinak – 200 GE100+ Refractory
Result

We were asked to design, supply and install flue systems to suit the Loring S35 Coffee roaster.

The Loring S35 coffee roaster required two flues – one for the roasting and one for the cooling.

With close consideration to the specification, the hot stack can reach temperatures up to 788 °C, with a continuous temperature at 760°C. Due to these high temperatures, it was decided for the roasting exhaust we would opt for a 200mm 316L stainless steel GE100+ refractory twin wall flue, which is made up of 25mm of ceramic fibre insulation and 75mm of Rockwool insulation. The cooling pipe has low temperatures, therefore we opted for a 200mm 316L stainless steel single wall flue system.

The overall flue installation was completed on time within the programme of works.
