Project Brief
The Royal Victoria Hospital is one of four linked hospitals making up N.Ireland’s largest and busiest hospital complex.
Every year ,over 80,000 people are admitted as inpatients, with over 350,000 treated as outpatients.
The Royal Victoria Hospital has a long history of specialist services such as Cardiac surgery, Critical Care and Trauma.
The existing Flue system at the Royal Victoria Hospital served two large steam boilers for over 30 years. The boilers operated for a number of years on heavy fuel oil which allowed for a high level of corrosion before the boilers were eventually switched to gas. The Hospital Trust decided it would be best to replace the existing wind-shield and opted for a support structure with two modular stainless steel flues fitted at a dia of 900mm
John J Doyle were contracted to complete a flue dispersion model which confirmed an overall height requirement of 40m
John J Doyle designed, supplied and installed a structure with two flues including foundation design. By using a phased installation model we caused no disruption to supply and working at weekends managed to allow full access for ambulances and other emergency vehicles during the installation.
The project was completed on time to the client’s full satisfaction
