Project Brief
Ballyclare High School is a co-educational, non-denominational grammar school in Ballyclare, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. There are approximately 1,200 pupils at the school, taught by around 80 teachers.
The existing installation at Ballyclare Secondary School was not up to standard which was highlighted through the annual PPM’s, carried out by John J Doyle Ltd.
John J Doyle were asked to design the new flue systems that would comply with the regulations set out in Gas safe and IGEM/UP/10 whilst also complying with clean air. Before any installation could occur, we completed a drone survey to give us a complete survey of chimney at high level to help prevent any unforeseen issues that may not be determined from ground level when installing the new liner.
Materials Used
- Dinak DWJ twin wall stainless steel 180mm Flue
- Dinak DWJ twin wall stainless steel 400mm Flue
Thermosetting liner 400mm
Result
John J Doyle Ltd were asked to design, supply and install new flue system to suit the 5No. New Nesta gas fired boilers.
At design stage, we carried out the flue sizing calculations inhouse to determine the overall flue diameter serving the main school.
Dinak 180 DWJ twin wall 316L stainless steel flue rises off each boiler with mechanical non-return valve and connects to a common 400mm Dinak DWJ 316L stainless steel header. Due to the size of the header, we would not be able to install a continuous stainless-steel liner down the existing chimney, therefore we decided to use a thermosetting liner which would allow us to achieve the same outcome, but at a larger diameter.
Installation was carried out over a 4-day period.
